The wow factor of the Mandarin class is that it can be done online and based on our own timing, so we don’t have to go to the centre and can choose a schedule that works for us. One of my most interesting experiences was taking the HSK 1 for the first time. Even with the mock exam during class, experiencing the real exam in Mandarin was quite memorable. I’m now able to understand some words in sentences spoken by my friends and connect the dots even if I only understand a few words, which motivates me to keep learning harder. I’m proud and grateful for the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and apply my skills outside class, like understanding Chinese dramas. Xiexie laoshimen for teaching me from CIC level to Level D, and a special thank you to Bunga Laoshi! With your hard work, I’ve been able to learn Chinese on my own and deepen my understanding of the language.

I really enjoy the class because my laoshi is very friendly and supportive. I also like that I can interact with other students and make new friends along the way. Learning Mandarin has helped me in my career, especially when communicating with patients. The classes are always exciting and motivating, and I look forward to improving even more. I really appreciate how Izzati Laoshi constantly checks our understanding throughout the class, corrects our pronunciation, and reminds us about tones while guiding us step by step. She always encourages us to construct sentences and gently corrects us, which helps reinforce grammar in a very supportive way. As an older learner, I used to be afraid of making mistakes, but KunKwan provides a safe and comfortable environment to learn from them. Even though the classes are online, they are still very interactive and engaging. The learning experience also reminds me of my Nihongo days, especially when memorizing characters, and I find it fun how Hanzi is taught in a more visual and engaging way. One of my most memorable experiences was completing an assignment where I had to interview a stranger, which turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. Learning Mandarin has helped me in daily situations like shopping or visiting the hospital, and I now enjoy understanding signages and picking up conversations around me, even though people speak very fast! Overall, learning Mandarin has been meaningful as it allows better connection and understanding with others in Malaysia. I’m also very grateful for KunKwan’s flexibility and support, especially during difficult times, and truly appreciate the dedicated teachers like Izzati Laoshi who make this journey so worthwhile.

Kunkwan Mandarin class stands out with its flexible schedule, rich resources like interactive lessons and multimedia tools, and friendly, experienced teachers who make learning fun and engaging. One of my favourite memories was studying Mandarin with fellow Kunkwan friends at a cozy café, where we spent the day chatting in Chinese, laughing over pronunciation mistakes, and finishing our homework together, making learning feel fun and memorable. Learning Mandarin has opened a door to a new world, helping me appreciate Chinese culture more deeply and even recognize Chinese loanwords in Malay like “tapau.” As a Japanese speaker, it also helped me bridge language barriers at work, improving communication between my Chinese and Japanese colleagues. Overall, learning Mandarin has been incredibly rewarding as it broadened my mindset, boosted my confidence, and enhanced my career opportunities. It’s more than just a skill, but a gateway to endless opportunities. Bunga Lǎoshī, thank you for your endless patience in answering my many questions. I have a very patient Minqi lǎoshī who is always willing to answer any questions during class, which is very encouraging and helpful. A memorable moment was making a self-recording video while reading a Mandarin script I had written, making sure my intonation was accurate. Learning Mandarin has allowed me to have short conversations with Chinese shopkeepers near my home, and I’m pleased to practice what I learned at Kunkwan. The journey is challenging but rewarding, and I am motivated to continue improving my oral and written Mandarin. I really had fun learning Mandarin with Agnes Laoshi, even though it was a new environment for me. One of my favourite moments was reading the text in the notes with other students. I can now speak a little bit of Mandarin with my Chinese classmates. Learning Mandarin has been challenging, especially with tones, but now I’m able to say them correctly. I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. It also helps me enjoy my favourite Mandarin songs more easily. I feel grateful to be part of the Kunkwan community and always look forward to the next class. I’m happy to learn new things with such a great laoshi, Ain Laoshi, and I always loved it when laoshi picked my name to read in class as it gave me the chance to practice my pronunciation. As a retiree, I enjoy learning Mandarin to spend my time meaningfully, and now I can even understand what the hero in Chinese dramas is saying 😁 Learning Mandarin can be quite challenging, but it’s also fun because I can use many things around me as learning tools. What impressed me most during my Mandarin class with Ika Laoshi were her well-paced lessons, step-by-step guidance, and patience in teaching. One of my most memorable experiences was preparing for the role play assignment and performing it, along with the funny mistakes I made throughout the classes. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations better as I’m able to catch some vocabulary and get the gist of what is being said. It also indirectly helps me build better relationships with my clients, as they can see my effort and become more open with me, especially the uncles and aunties. Although it has been challenging, I’m proud of my progress as I can now hold simple conversations and understand basic Mandarin. To Ika Laoshi, thank you so much for teaching me and for always being patient, especially when I reach out with questions — I’ve truly learned a lot and had so much fun in your class.

I really enjoy learning with Agnes Laoshi because of her teaching methods and the non-judgemental classmates. I joined every Wednesday class and can now understand simple conversations. My Mandarin class with Izzati lǎoshī is interactive and fun, making learning enjoyable and less stressful. She is friendly, supportive, and always encourages us to speak with confidence, especially during the 5-minute practice breaks. I love learning real-life phrases that I can use in daily conversations, and the teaching pace is comfortable for beginners. My most memorable moment was taking my first HSK1 exam and getting full marks, even though I started learning Mandarin at 40 with no background, it gave me a lot of confidence and motivated me to continue. I love how fun she is when teaching, and how she explains things so well with great enthusiasm. One of my most memorable experiences was taking the HSK exam for the first time and feeling so nervous, but everyone was very welcoming and never made fun of mistakes.
